USF Logistics Services
Receives Company-Wide ISO Certification
(Oak Brook, Illinois - January, 2004)
USF Logistics Services Inc., (www.usfc.com)
an operating company of USF Corporation, has been awarded certification
under ISO 9001: 2000 for the entire company. The nine fourth-quarter
certifications include those for USF Logistics' cross-dock, warehouse,
and dedicated fleet operations. In July of 2003, ISO 9001:2000 certification
was awarded to the Company's general office, transportation management,
and ocean services operations. In what is considered a rarity, all 12
certifications were granted with zero nonconformances, i.e., there were
no areas of company procedures or performance that needed to be upgraded.
The International Organization for Standardization,
or ISO, is a worldwide network of national standards institutes
of some 140 countries. ISO 9001:2000 has become an international reference
for quality requirements in business-to-business dealings, specifically
in management systems. With company-wide certification, customers can
be assured that USF Logistics is able to provide the quality of service
it promises.
"We began our work toward ISO 9001:2000 certification
in January of 2003, with a goal to have the entire company certified by
year end," said Thomas Lilly, USF Logistics Services President and Chief
Executive Officer. "I'm extremely proud of the work our team has done
to help us meet such an ambitious goal."
The ISO evaluation of USF Logistics' 12 operations
was conducted by seven different auditors, five from the United Kingdom
and two from the United States. "We were very pleased when the auditors
had no nonconformances to report in any of their recommendations for certification,"
commented Gary King, USF Logistics Director, Continuous Improvement Services.
"In fact, several of the auditors considered it a challenge to find at
least something to cite, but there wasn't anything of significance that
would warrant a nonconformance citation."
USF Logistics worked with International Management
Systems Marketing (IMSM), a consulting firm known for its work as an ISO
"coach." "The USF Logistics certification is a phenomenal achievement,"
said Scott Mersch, Midwest Area Manager for IMSM. "To have earned company-wide
certification in just one year is a testament to the dedication of the
entire USF Logistics organization."
